8TH ANNUAL BIKE THE BORDER - JUNE 15-17, 2012
Because of the new "spoke" route format that we will be doing this year, we will be camping in the city of Bottineau each evening.
Day 1: 55 to 69.5 miles
- Leave Bottineau traveling east on Hwy 2 to Dunseith. From Dunseith, go north on Hwy 281 to junction of Hwy 43.
- Option 1: Turn west on Hwy 43 to Lake Metigoshe.
- Option 2: Continue 4 miles north to the International Peace Gardens and then back to junction of Hwy 43 and going west to Lake Metigoshe.
- Once at Lake Metigoshe, you may either continue past the lake to the junction of pavement going south back to Bottineau or take the 6.5 mile loop around the lake. Please note that this loop will also be included in Day 2's route.
- Travel south on pavement west of the lake, back to Bottineau.
Day 2: 50 miles
- Travel west of Bottineau to County Road 37 and go north to Souris.
- Turn east at Souris to Hwy 14 and turn north.
- Turn east on lake road and continue to Lake Metigoshe, loop around the lake, visiting Lake Metigoshe State Park if you wish (entrance fees may apply).
- Turn south at "Sawmill" corner and back to Bottineau.
Day 3: 40.5 miles
- Travel 1 mile west of Bottineau and turn south on pavement traveling to Gardena.
- Turn west at Gardena to Kramer.
- Go north on Hwy 14 and then east on Hwy 5 back to Bottineau.
